چکیده

Today’s maternal/fetal monitoring lacks the capability to diagnose labor and predict delivery. The objective of this work was to demonstrate that uterine electromyography (EMG) is proven to be a viable alternative to current monitoring techniques. Uterine EMG was monitored noninvasively and trans-abdominally from pregnant patients using surface electrodes. Several aspects of the uterine EMG were investigated: contraction plotting, diagnosing labor, and predicting delivery. Contractions were seen to correspond well with tocodynamometer(TOCO-) plotted contractions. As well, increases in electrical activity were indicative of labor and imminent delivery. Uterine EMG could be a valuable tool for obstetricians if implemented on a routine basis in the clinic. Keywords— Uterus, electromyography, EMG, labor, diag-

The Shape of Uterine Contractions and Labor Progress in the Spontaneous Active Labor

Background: Dystocia is the most common indication of primary cesarean section. The most common cause of dystocia is uterine dysfunction. In prolonged labor, more attention is usually paid to the fetus and pelvis rather than to the role of uterine contractions in a delivery. Therefore, we decided to determine the relationship between the labor progress and uterine contractions shapes. Methods: I...

Effect of Ampicillin on Idiopathic Premature Labor in Teaching Hospital in Tehran, 1995

In clinical trial study, effect of ampicillin on idiopathic premature labor in 16 hospitals for 4 months from 74/09/30 was evaluated. (Tehran, 1995). Cases (30 subjects) have received ampicillin, but controls (30 subjects) didn't receive it. In two groups, maternal age, gestational age, parity, vaginal examination (lillatation & effacement), uterine contractions within 10 minutes, tocolytic dru...

Investigating the effect of nifedipine and indomethacin on the number of uterine contractions, CRP and the number of white blood cells in pregnant women with idiopathic preterm labor.

Aims: In preterm delivery, uterine contractions begin prematurely and lead to the opening of the cervix. Nifedipine and Indomethacin drugs can help reduce contractions and delay childbirth.  However, there are contradictions regarding their effect on preterm birth and inflammatory factors. . The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of nifedipine and indomethacin on the uterine contra...

Assessment of Parturition with Cervical Light-Induced Fluorescence and Uterine Electromyography

Parturition involves increasing compliance (ripening) of the uterine cervix and activation of the myometrium. These processes take place in a different time frame. Softening and shortening of the cervix starts in midpregnancy, while myometrial activation occurs relatively close to delivery. Methods currently available to clinicians to assess cervical and myometrial changes are subjective and in...

Use of Non-invasive Uterine Electromyography in the Diagnosis of Preterm Labour

Predictive values of methods currently used in the clinics to diagnose preterm labour are low. This leads to missed opportunities to improve neonatal outcomes and, on the other hand, to unnecessary hospitalizations and treatments. In addition, research of new and potentially more effective preterm labour treatments is hindered by the inability to include only patients in true preterm labour int...
